The Hoys :: Chelsea + Derek

December 9, 2015  |  Southern Fete News

I’m fairly certain this is how Chelsea and I’s first conversation transpired. “Have you planned a wedding for 300 … in a tent … outside … in August … on family property … in four months … with us living out of state and only visiting once?” While I hadn’t done all of these “things” for the same wedding, I knew it was something I wanted to tackle.

I hit the ground running and never looked back. Because of how closely we worked with each other, I felt like I became a part of this family. On more than one occasion I joked that the week of the wedding I was going to move in. And while I didn’t pack my bags and pull out my throwback sleeping bag, I technically spent every day of that week, from sun-up to sun-down, on-site making sure Chelsea and Derek’s dream wedding came to life. And come to life is a bit of an understatement. Honestly, this wedding couldn’t have been more perfect (if I do say so myself!).

I love every single wedding because each couple has something different they’re most looking forward to. For Chelsea and Derek, it was the ceremony. From the music, to the program, to the homily and readings, each part of the mass was hand picked by the couple and held so much meaning. Chelsea’s family has a close connection to the choir from Our Lady Queen of Angels church in Opelousas, and if you closed your eyes, you literally felt like you were listening to Heaven’s choir … no exaggeration.

And are you wondering how we pulled off a TENT wedding in AUGUST … with the groom’s family traveling from the Northeast and arriving in sweaters? I bet you wouldn’t believe me if I told you that no one broke a sweat (at least from the temperature! Maybe from their dancing moves). We worked closely with Party Central to ensure that, rain or shine, the tent never dropped below 70 degrees. I couldn’t have done it without them.

There were so many special details from this wedding that I could write about for days, some of them including – Vermont maple syrup from friends of the groom’s family farm, a custom coaster with a photo of St. Charles Borromeo for guests to remember their trip to Grand Coteau, a groom’s spread including crepe cakes, macarons, and creme brulee bites, a cochon du lait, a swing band, and an epic family dance off to Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk. But, I’m running low on coffee and think photos always speak more than my own words. Here are only a few of my favorites from their big day!

This was the most beautiful piece of reclaimed wood that we refinished, stained, and handed over to St. Blanc Calligraphy to work her magic … and that she did! How about this menu?

This lady is fabulous and even more spectacular was that the bridal party surprised the bride and groom with this sweet treat!

I hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch their amazing blockbuster film captured by BGP Productions!

Writing this post has brought back so many spectacular memories. But most of all, it’s made me realize again just how lucky I am that brides and grooms (and their families) continue to entrust one of the most special days in their lives to me. Rain or shine. August or December. And making this one so perfect would surely never have happened if it wasn’t for the most amazing group of vendors (more than 30!) who worked tirelessly to ensure that every. single. detail. that they were charged with was executed perfectly.

Chelsea and Derek – I’m so very thankful that our paths crossed at such a special time in your lives. It was so much fun getting to know both of you and your families throughout the short time that we planned your wedding. You both share such a special love for each other and your faith, and I couldn’t be more excited to see what life holds for you. You have become such sweet friends, and that in itself is a tremendous blessing.
