On September 1, 2012, I’ll be launching Val Marie Paper! And in 2013, I will be working full time as an invitation designer.
The Val Marie Paper brand will consist of a wedding collection, baby collection and holiday collection. Invitation design has grown to be a tremendous part of my business and I’m thrilled to do it full time! I’ve got so many ideas and I’m looking forward to devoting 100% of my work time to these endeavors. I’ll debut the new designs and oodles of new offerings with the launch at the beginning of September.
I will continue operating Southern Fete through the end of December 2012. We have some of really amazing weddings this fall that I’m thrilled to create and think it will truly be a grand finale to my wedding planning era!
So how did this come about?
As inquiries for 2013 started coming in last winter, I realized I wasn’t really sure where we’d be in life 14 months down the road. Tyler and I have hopes to start a family soon and I knew I didn’t want to book clients not knowing if I’d be waddling to the hospital to deliver a baby on their wedding day.
My love for weddings has not, and will not change. This past weekend, we worked with an incredible couple and family and I found myself wondering how I could part with this side of the business.
The truth is, I know this decision is right for me and my family. Wedding planning is an incredibly rewarding job but also very high pressure. Forbes actually considers it the 6th most stressful job right behind military and law enforcement. I’ve been able to devote so much of my attention to it these last few years but know that won’t be possible to create the environment I want for future little Woerners. I have so much respect for those wedding planners who balance a family and high pressure job!
Last Thursday I watched one chapter begin and another end. I moved out of my office of three years with two amazing office mates and got the final draft of my new logo from my wonderful designer Bethany Hway. I teared up when she sent it to me. It was clean and simple and PERFECT. And the beginning of a wonderful new chapter. Here’s a small taste of the new brand!
I am sooo thrilled at what’s to come. I have grown so much from when I first thought about even owning my own business exactly four years ago this month. Wow. I can’t even believe it’s been four years! The new brand is going to be completely me and offer so much goodness. I’ve spent the last few months making preparations for the new brand and I cannot express how excited I am to share with y’all everything.
I’m so ready to continue on this journey and that has everything to do with the wonderful people I’ve met, worked with, chatted with through twitter or Facebook along the process. I want to know you even more. I hope to inspire you to chase big dreams and hope to be inspired by your stories too.
Cheers to a bright future ahead for all of us! : )
Tap tap. Is this thing on? I know it’s been pretty quiet here on the blog this month. What a wild 6 weeks it’s been! I’ve had so much writer’s block lately and honestly wasn’t sure what to say in the middle of so much going on. Personal posts are hard to write on a blog for my business. Here goes.
The last two months have been a roller coaster of emotions and decisions. Tyler and I made big decisions and I had two big transitions. God placed me with a man that shared my drive to do things we wanted to do, no matter how crazy they seemed. Sounds simple enough.
We made decisions and plans to set ourselves up for a successful future. And we are going to make sacrifices to make it happen. Like Dave Ramsey says “Live like no one else, so you can live like no one else.”
So we decided to downsize our already downsized apartment to save money. We said goodbye to our lake walks, personal washer and dryer and gate code. Did we HAVE to? No. Was it a tough decision? Yes. But we knew what we wanted. And honestly, we feel more comfortable and feel more at home at our new apartment. Maybe it’s sheer joy from knowing we are doing something for our future. Like the joy of sweat or sore muscles after a workout knowing you’re growing stronger.
About a week before we moved out of our apartment, we found out my office had found new tenants to fill our lease. This was a decision we had made but we were not expecting anything quickly. We had three weeks to be out.
My new office a bit prematurely scheduled was to be our dining room. It’s only been a few days. It hasn’t been easy but I know it’s worth it.
Why am I telling y’all this?
Planning is so incredibly important but so is making steps towards things we want. If there is something you want, GO FOR IT! Some things will be hard and you will have to make sacrifices. It was true for starting my own business. It was true for spending a month in Philly. And it is true for this next phase that I can’t wait to share with y’all.
I’ll be sharing later today some big news that has played a factor into our big plans. No, I’m not pregnant! Stay tuned! : )
What a month! This was by far the busiest month of the year for weddings and for me personally. Here’s a look!
I was honored to get to contribute several articles in the Bridal Section for FACE Magazine (March 2012). It included 1) a quiz to find out what feel fits a bride best: garden, glam or vintage 2) an article chocked full of tips when ordering invitations 3) things I’m glad I knew before getting married and advice based on my first year of marriage.

We’re prepping this week for Bria and Anthony’s wedding on Friday! We’ve got tons of cute details going on and the most adorable couple ever! Looking forward to making their wedding dreams come true. Anthony, that means plenty of punch, right? Check out this sneak peek from their engagement shoot with Mark Eric. They wanted an at home feel, everyday feel and had the perfect location. Mark did a great job on the shoot! Thrilled to work with him again this weekend! Enjoy!
