I am blessed

July 31, 2009  |  Southern Fete News

I have never done this before but I’ve always prided myself on being myself and not just doing things for show. Like not posting a super excited blog post about letterpress when inside I’ve got bigger things on my mind.

I’m young for a business owner. I turn 25 next month. And on top of that I “look young for my age.” A gene everyone promises I will appreciate later…I’m still waiting. Right now, I just want to be taken seriously as a wedding planner. Maybe your perspective of a young wedding planner is someone who has planned their own wedding and thinks “it’d be fun” to do this all day long. That’s not me.

I received training and education to become a novice member with the Association of Bridal Consultants a year ago and launched my website a few weeks later. After a little more training I became an accredited Consultant this summer of which I am proud of. I graduated from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston with a degree in journalism and went on to design layouts for newspapers and magazines which has given me the experience to design invitations, programs, etc. for my brides. I read business books and learn from other entrepreneurs to keep the business side of Southern Fete growing. I am starting an online invitation company to offer affordable invitations to brides nationwide.

Honestly, I don’t swoon at the sight of letterpress or a couture wedding dress. I get excited over seeing how in love an engaged couple is. I sigh at the sight of a beautiful dress on a tearful bride. I smile when I know a design I have come up with is exactly what a couple wanted but couldn’t put into words. And I thrive on finding the perfect decor UNDER budget.

Some people may doubt me because of my age or my apparent easy-goingness. And when that doubt comes (many times unjustly), I pull out notes from past brides or vendors that I have helped.

thank

I want to thank you for every ounce of support. Brace yourselves. I am naming names. My brides over the last year: Alexis, Sara, Tiffany, Bethany, Lauren, Jess, Rachael, Emily, Ashley, Michele, Stacy, Lindsey, Sam, Karin, Brittney, Amanda and Brandy. I have loved working with each of you and am honored to be there when you find THE dress, or get to talk with you moments before you walk down the aisle. It’s not something I take lightly. Vendors that constantly amaze me by quality work and quality customer service: Jana, Brian from Immoneli, Crystal and Mary, Keith, Sammy, Lisa, Travis, Rodney from Les Amis, Bobby and Dot and your wonderful staff. My new office mates, Daniel, Jason and Kat. You have already encouraged me to take my business further.

And of course my friends and family. My mom thought I was crazy when I said I wanted to be a wedding planner. She’s a tough sell. Seeing her and my dad’s pride when they came to see my new space told me everything. My business-savvy grandpa and my generous grandma, I love making you proud. My biggest fans Kate and Jenny and twin sister Natalie, and my supportive boyfriend Tyler who gets to hear non-stop wedding talk, and created a brand and web site I am so proud of. I am actually tearing up overwhelmed by the support you have all given me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I am blessed.
