Happy Anniversary!!

Happy April 5!!! And why is April 5 a special day? It was a year ago today that I began tinkering with the idea of being a wedding planner. I was in three weddings that upcoming summer (a plantation wedding in Vidalia for my college roommate Rikki Leigh, a wedding at  a historic resort in the hills of Virginia for my old school friend Elizabeth and a hometown Southern celebration in Lafayette for my life-long friend Kate) and was knee-deep in dress selections, measurements and showers and had a near same-date fiasco.

Truth be told when the e-mails started snowballing I got a little stressed and wasn’t quite so “honored” to be a bridesmaid. But by April I was in full gear. I hated seeing each bride stress and wished my regular job allowed more time to participate in the process. And that Saturday a little movie called The Wedding Planner was on and I got thinking… Cheesy I know, but all I needed was a little inspiration.

I began researching and couldn’t stop. Lafayette had a limited number of wedding planners and a big enough market so I started thinking of starting my own business. That summer in between work and weddings, I received my certification from Association of Bridal Consultants and worked on a Web site (designed by Pixelbrush Media).

The Web site went live September 1 and I had my first wedding as a company Sept. 13. Now one year after that idea I just completed another wedding last night (which was so wonderful, more details to come!) and eight more for the year! I have been overwhelmed with the response and truly blessed to be working with such great brides. Sooo…what does that mean for you?? I want to bless y’all too! Southern Fete is offering a $200 discount off the full-service package and $100 off the day of package for anyone who books a wedding between now April 30.
