Black and white is the ultimate dramatic color scheme. It’s a combination that will never go out of style. The contrast in colors is rich and bold. Adding shades of cream to the palette take it from the present to the past by adding a vintage element. It’s so exciting helping someone design and plan their dream wedding. It’s my job to take the dream and find a way to turn it into reality by fitting it into realistic budgets and time frames without losing the original concept. That’s why it’s fun to dream of what I would want if I were getting married today.
Romance is achieved by using ruffles in the décor and wedding attire. Circular shapes also help to soften and add to the delicate feeling. The flowers used to create this ruffled and round romantic effect are large peonies, garden roses and ranunculus. Adding to the vintage feel are different floral centerpiece vessels, from etched glass to antique soup tureens. Guests are treated to foods inspired by life in South Louisiana like crawfish etouffee over white rice served in martini glasses and seafood gumbo. To incorporate my fiancé’s Alabama heritage, cheese grits and ribs with white bread catered by Dreamland, a Tuscaloosa institution. After an evening of jazz music and Cajun two-stepping, guests are served beignets topped with white powdered sugar and piping hot café au lait.
